Rehabilitation of Persons with Psychiatric Disabilities will examine the essential principles and knowledge upon which the developing field of psychiatric rehabilitation is based. The course will expose students to application of psychiatric rehabilitation technology in mental health systems and programs. Emphasis is placed on professionals’ and consumers’ lived experience of rehabilitation. Students will acquire their knowledge of the field through lecture notes, assigned readings, and independent library research. Students will be expected to demonstrate their acquisition of knowledge through the completion of a written exam.
Goals
The course is designed to increase the student’s understanding of the field of psychiatric rehabilitation. An emphasis is placed on the student’s acquiring the knowledge base from which the techniques of psychiatric rehabilitation are being developed.
Each student will be able to demonstrate his or his in-depth understanding of the facts, concepts, and principles underlying and guiding the growth of the field of psychiatric rehabilitation.
