Prior to joining the Center as a Project Director in 2019, Joe Marrone was a Senior Program Manager for Public Policy at the Institute for Community Inclusion/ UMASS BOSTON) for 25 years. He was also Coordinator of Training/ TA at the NIDILRR funded Vocational Rehabilitation and VR Management RRTCs based at ICI and the RSA funded 5-year research grant on helping Social Security recipients achieve economic self-sufficiency. He was formerly the Associate Director of the largest community mental health center in Washington State as well as having a 17-year career in public VR. He has consulted, trained, & lectured in all 50 states, Canada, Puerto Rico, Asia, and Europe. In total, he has over 40 years direct service/administrative experience in delivering rehabilitation services and in community mental health. Joe has a strong interest in promoting employment outcomes for individuals with psychiatric conditions. He has lectured and published extensively on policy and program issues in employment services for both youth and adults including workplace supports, workforce development, welfare to work issues, and consumer empowerment. Joe has been on the staff of the New England Psychiatric Rehabilitation Training Program and the University of Massachusetts at Boston, the Michigan State University Long -Term Training Grant in Psychiatric Rehabilitation as well as of the University of Pittsburgh/Western Psychiatric Institute’s National Psychiatric Rehabilitation Training Grant. He has also been an Adjunct Faculty Member of the New England School of Professional Psychology and the Boston University School of Medicine. He is also on the Editorial Boards of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Journal, Psychiatric Services, Journal of Mental Health, among other journals.

Marjorie works in the Services Division as a teacher and developer of promising mind/body interventions, many of which include a variety of mindfulness practices, music-related activities, writing, and movement.  In addition, she provides educational support and holistic health coaching. She is an advocate of the Fivefold Mindfulness Path of Recovery: Mindful Understanding, Mindful Thinking, Mindful Listening, Mindful Speech, and Mindful Actions for Wellness. She incorporates meditation in most of her courses.  She is involved in animal-assisted, mental health support with her certified therapy dogs Carlo and Bob. In addition, she is a lay Dharma (Buddhism) teacher.

Derek completed the Post Compulsory Teacher’s Training Certificate at Brighton University (UK) and other specific teacher training courses during the 90’s while working as an Internal Arts Instructor (Qigong, Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan, Ba Gua Chang, Hsing I Chuan and Taoist Meditation). Derek came to the USA and BUCPR in 2002. His responsibilities at the BUCPR are developing classes and other activities, teaching and advising students; classes include Internal Arts of Qigong, Taoist Breathing and Meditation and Tai Chi Chuan; WRAP, IMR, Writing and Recovery, Movies/Film and Recovery, Painting for Wellness, Computer Seminar, Fitness, Cognitive Remediation, Embracing Loss (Mourning and Grief), Photovoice and performance-based classes such as Acts of Recovery. He is responsible for organizing our student “Talent Shows” and compiling and editing of our student Newsletter, “The Center”.

Derek is an Internal Arts Instructor tutored by Master Bruce Kumar Frantzis (CA), Sifu Frank Allen (NY) and Paul Cavel (UK). He has a Masters Degree in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling and he is a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP). He has a wide range of teaching experience in music, art, computers and the Internal Arts. He is a painter, photographer and a multi-musician recording artist.

Paul Cherchia, LMHC-MA Co-Directs the College Mental Health Educational Program, CMHEP at Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation in the College of Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College at Boston University. Paul is an instructor as well as a college coach within the NITEO program a wellness and academic skills-building program assisting college students to successfully re-enter college and complete higher education. He also co-developed and teaches PDP HE 102 LEAD BU: Building Wellness & Academic Skills for Success, which is a wellness and academic seminar helping students learn strategies for academic success, explore values and goals, access campus supports and develop skills for healthy interpersonal relationships. Additionally, oversee the PASS: Peer Academic Support Support program at BU and supervises the Peer Academic Coaches that work one on one with other BU students who are living with a mental health challenge. Prior to working at the Center, he was employed within Boston University working in both the Enrollment Offices and Residence Life Offices.
