Mental Health & Rehabilitation eCast

The purpose of the Mental Health & Rehabilitation eCast is to inform mental health and rehabilitation networks worldwide about Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation events and publications, as well as general mental health and rehabilitation news. The development and dissemination of this eCast is jointly supported by the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), Department of Education.


The UIC National Research and Training Center (NRTC) announces
the Peer Support Outcomes Protocol (POP), designed to measure
service and programmatic outcomes of self-help, peer support,
and consumer operated programs in mental health. Specific
outcome modules in the POP include: demographics, service
use, employment, community life, quality of life, well-being,
and program satisfaction. The POP was designed by
Dr. Jean Campbell of the University of Missouri in collaboration
with the UIC NRTC. To read about the POP and download the

The American Psychological Association’s Committee for
the Advancement of Professional Practice (CAPP) Task Force
on Serious Mental Illness has developed the
“Training Grid Outlining Best Practices for Recovery
and Improved Outcomes for People with Serious Mental
Illness” as a PDF download. This document serves as
an educational tool to inform mental health policy makers,
advocates, staff, consumers, and students. It provides
a catalogue with brief descriptions of interventions,
instruments, and contact information.

“Transformation Institute in Consumer Studies:
An Introduction to Evaluation Methods and Use”
is co-hosted by the Consumer Organization and
Networking Technical Assistance Center (CONTAC)
and the National Empowerment Center (NEC), both
peer-run/self-help national technical assistance centers
and will be held August 11-16, 2005 in Charleston,
West Virginia. The program is organized to meet
the challenges faced by consumers to understand,
produce, and use research & evaluation and intents
to build consumer skills and scholarship in evaluation basics
