Jennifer Gottlieb

Jennifer Gottlieb, Ph.D. is a Research Assistant Professor within the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation. She also has secondary appointments within the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry. Prior to joining the BU faculty, she was a faculty member at Dartmouth Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Gottlieb completed her undergraduate degree at American University in Washington, D.C. in Psychology and Spanish, earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Montana, and completed her Clinical Internship at University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Gottlieb’s research and clinical work has been devoted to the development, dissemination, and implementation of effective psychosocial interventions for individuals with serious mental illness (SMI), particularly those with psychosis and schizophrenia. Her research focuses on the creation, provision, and evaluation of CBT treatments for schizophrenia, novel interventions for first-episode and early psychosis, as well as specialized CBT treatments for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) for those within SMI and other vulnerable populations.

She is also a licensed psychologist who has extensive clinical CBT-based experience in the treatment of serious mental illness, schizophrenia, first-episode and early psychosis, trauma and PTSD, social skills training, dual disorders interventions, and smoking cessation. Dr. Gottlieb has delivered multiple national and international training workshops and lectures, provided clinical supervision and consultation to several mental health agencies and systems, co-authored treatment manuals, collaborated on several research projects, as well as authored several papers in these areas.

Dr. Gottlieb recently received a Fulbright Senior Researcher Award to Spain where she is adapting and piloting the Cognitive Restructuring for PTSD in SMI intervention with a Spanish patient population, training clinicians in the treatment, and assisting in the development and implementation of a specialty training program for this intervention at a local Madrid mental health center and a university clinic.
